Thankful

Sunday, 19 February 2012

I feel very inspired to write this one post. Wrote a short version in Facebook but writing it made me more inspired to blog about it.

So many times, we are not grateful for what we have. Or what we experience. We often forget, well I often forget that everything that happens is actually a miracle, something that is completely not of coincidence but meant to be. And every experience, every situation whether it's good or bad is lessons taught, memories learnt and lives shared. And very often, I forget to be thankful.

This whole semester has opened up my eyes to see the usually unseen. I have started to see with my heart instead of logic and sarcasm. For a long time, I wasn't this optimistic. I was a dreamer, but I was also a big discouragement to myself. I always felt like the world was against me, I had nothing to be grateful for, woe was me. I was angry, hurt, disappointed. I wanted to be like others. Popular, pretty, smart, super awesome basically. And I was angry and jealous when I saw people living the lives I yearned for.

I don't really know what happened this year. I don't. All I know, is that I have changed. A lot. I think it's after I told myself, I trust God, and I DID trust in Him, and in every situation, every problem encountered, every shitty thing, I made myself say "I trust You" even though I was scared. And the more I said it, the more I 'saw'. And I saw so many things to be grateful for. In so many ways. In so many circumstances.

Last week, the stress got to me. Friday night, last class and I go home only to be not able to breathe and having this acute pain in my right rib. I needed to go to the hospital but I didn't know who to call. Help came in the form of a dear friend. He took me to the hospital, and came back for me. The next day, I had a replacement class, and when it was over there was no bus home and I was feeling horrible so I started to walk back only for the pain to get worse halfway till I started crying. Help came, in the form of a girl a adore and a boy I have known for a long time. Last Thursday, I had a midterm at 7am, before uni officially starts, and I was walking in the wee hours of the morning, in the drizzle. Help came, in the form of course mate and fellow 'warriors'. Help always came. And it's not just that. I'm thankful for my university.

Yes, I was one of the people who claimed UTAR to be "Uni tak ada ruang" and "Uni tak ada rehat" and all kind of bull crap. But sitting here, in my room thinking about this semester, I feel so grateful for such an awesome experience. Have you ever seen UTAR in the wee hours of the morning before dawn? It's beyond gorgeous. And the air, is not polluted, calm, sweet and cold and the whole place looks poised and beautiful. And just to sit there and look at the beauty and have the chance to talk to God and say thank you. It was a beautiful experience. I will never forget it. And I always complain about having to wake up before dawn for class and back home so late I don't even know what to do with myself, but honestly I like this life. I like having something of substance to deal with rather than the idyllic life I used to live, in denial and buried in the illusion of grandeur and stupidity, controlled by people whom, I don't even give a damn about anymore. Who were of waste to me. This life, has set me straight in my priorities; its do or die(fail in my case). When I come home I don't rush of to do stupid things. I get my work done. I am at par with my subjects in my uni. I am not in blur-dome or total ignorance. I have my priorities straight. And yes, midterm every week does suck and it looks like heavy workload but honestly when you think about in the long run, I'm better prepared for my finals, because I have already learnt it before, once during lecture, again for my midterms and studying it again for finals only makes it harder to forget.

And oh the life in Kampar. Honestly, like what bie always says, it is the caves. But it is the most perfect, beautiful 'cave' I have ever lived in. And there is no city life in which I can get sucked in, doing what everybody does;shopping, clubbing, lepaking, gaming etc. In Kampar, imagination comes in handy. And honestly only in Kampar can you see young adults get so excited for pasar malam night every Wednesday even though chances of it raining that very Wednesday is 100%. And running after buffaloes and going fishing in the lakes and actually catching one... only in Kampar do you get so excited and mental when you find out McD is coming to Kampar. And the late night barbies(BBQ) in the middle of the road and running around Westlake/Harvard looking for shooting stars in the skies during August-Dec... Going to yumcha at the mamak stall at 4am because you're bored. And sometimes, we get so bored we turn to our UTAR notes/books/ppstreaming for adventure. And there's sleepovers and late night cramming for exams with tonnes of food and redbull.

This is just a fraction of what I am thankful for today. If I wrote it all, I would have to turn it into a pdf file and link it coz it would be just too long. And , I'm thankful for bie. Because it was him, that led me to this today, and I could say a thousand things about him that I am thankful for, but it all sums up to one; he gave me a home, which was all I wanted my whole life. And I'm thankful for that. And mostly, I'm thankful to God. Because He made me, and He made this plan for my life. And He received me with open arms, and he does that everyday, after all the muck and dirt I 'fall' into. And he continues to plan my life, and lead me through it. And He gave me these emotions, and these thoughts and these wonderful things to say. I don't know what I would do without Him. I am thankful.

Grey's Anatomy

Monday, 19 December 2011

Did I mention I love Grey's Anatomy?
I think I have, countless times. I love my other series', The Walking Dead, House, Modern Family, Scrubs, I love them. But Grey's Anatomy is the one series I can completely relate to. I see my sassy-ness in Miranda Bailey, I see my defiant, stubborn completely sarcastic and annoying nature in Christina Yang, I see the cute, dreamy believing in fairytales and 'gold dust across the rainbow' nature in Arizona Robbins. I see my saucy sexy 'throw my cares away' attitude in Calliope Torres. I see my insecurity and a total unsure nature in Isobel Stevens. I see my 'seeing things in grey' and wanting to do what's right and a conflicting nature in Meredith Grey.

I relate to Grey's Anatomy. I just absolutely love it. And I cant wait for the next episode to air.

Africa

Wednesday, 30 November 2011

Studying at home is not constructive at all. I wander of into doing stupid things like 9gag mostly( oh internet why do you exist?). I think I'm going to go study at the library later today.
Someday I want to move to Africa. It's one of my options. New York sounds awesome and cheesy but I will get bored quickly and seriously I rather go to Africa. And it's not because I am in a relationship with an African. I just love everything about Africa. I love its people, its culture, the food, nature, language, everything. I crave for Egwusi soup, and I have no idea how to do it, or I will be eating it everyday. My favourite author is from South Africa, go figure :) I grew up reading about Africa. About the wonders of Ethiopia and Zimbabwe and wars and tribes and culture rich people. Wilbur Smith really influenced the way I thought. And I'm forever grateful to him about that.

I love Africa.

Books Galore!

Tuesday, 29 November 2011

I kinda realised today why I dont read anymore although books are my life. You see, I'm doing a Science course in a 'hardcore' uni and my course is 3 years as opposed to the usual 4 other unis offer. So, all my time is spent of facts and the 'mechanics of life'. Which, in my opinion has left very little room for fiction in my head. so that is why I lose interest in movies and fictional books I suppose. Maybe.

But I visited my uni library today to inquire about something and ended up with 4 books, which I'm going to be keeping till next semester. The 4 books are:

  1. Survival of the sickest by Dr. Sharon Moalem
    - Its a 'medical maverick that discovers why we need diseases', well that is what it says here on the cover. Its mostly about why deadly diseases are bred into our genetic code and I think its very fascinating because I am taking genetics next semester and this book will hopefully jumpstart my interest in genetics. (because I tend to lose interest with tough subjects)

  2. Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
    - This book is a must read for me, because it's part of my boyfie's heritage and also the main protagonists are from his tribe, the Igbo people and according to the reviews online, it is the type of book I can sink myself into. This is what it says in a review from Amazon.com. A masterly, haunting new novel from a writer heralded by The Washington Post Book World as “the 21st-century daughter of Chinua Achebe,” Half of a Yellow Sun re-creates a seminal moment in modern African history: Biafra’s impassioned struggle to establish an independent republic in Nigeria in the 1960s, and the chilling violence that followed.

With astonishing empathy and the effortless grace of a natural storyteller, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie weaves together the lives of three characters swept up in the turbulence of the decade. Thirteen-year-old Ugwu is employed as a houseboy for a university professor full of revolutionary zeal. Olanna is the professor’s beautiful mistress, who has abandoned her life of privilege in Lagos for a dusty university town and the charisma of her new lover. And Richard is a shy young Englishman in thrall to Olanna’s twin sister, an enigmatic figure who refuses to belong to anyone. As Nigerian troops advance and the three must run for their lives, their ideals are severely tested, as are their loyalties to one another.

  3. The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
-I loved the title, so I grabbed it. This review on the back cover caught my eye. "It is rare to find a book that so effectively cuts through the clothes of nationality, caste, and religion to reveal the bare bones of humanity. a sensational novel"
I have a fascination for those things, because in the end, it is those things that separates us humans, nothing else. And I'm guessing this book is going to be awesome  to read

  4. Tales from the Bed by Jenifer Estess-This book is a personal account of a woman suffering from ALS. I actually have no idea what ALS is, but I shall google it later on, and I thought I should borrow it after reading the back cover of the book. This is what it says on the back.

Six years ago, doctors told Jenifer that she had ALS, and to max out her credit cards, take a long trip, and prepare to die. She could have taken doctors' orders. Instead, Jenifer chose to fight for her dreams with renewed courage. She became a soldier in the fight against ALS by drawing on survival skills she learned when she and her sisters were girls.
Jenifer wrote from her queen-sized bed in Manhattan, where, as a paralyzed woman facing her mortality, she saw the world. TALES FROM THE BED tells her story of growing up in a typically dysfunctional American family; of her descent into illness; of hilarious, surprising, and heartbreaking encounters with friends and family, lovers, and celebrities; and of her and her sisters' fight to save her life.
And so, 4 books to read during the semester break(which gives boyfie a lot of 'me time' without yours truly 'attacking' him :D

Can't wait to start reading :)

xoxo

Girl likes

Tuesday, 22 November 2011

My boyfriend always tells me "Bie, I have no idea what you like to do. I have been studying you and you're not like other girls. You dont watch movies, you dont read, you dont browse, I just dont get you,"

Mostly it's because I bug him when I'm with him. I havent seen him in a while and when I'm there I take every opportunity I get to pounce on him and annoy him.

But the honest truth is, I dont quite remember what I like to do anymore. I had a whole bunch of things I loved to do before 'calamity' struck me (or rather befriended me), and now I dont know what I like anymore. I dont concentrate on movies. I dont. I just drift away and go do other things. Or skip parts of the movie. I start reading, but I dont quite finish the book. I wander of. I used to read so much. Watch movies like a bitch-pig.

What do girls do? Like, what do you like?

I need inspiration. I need to go find my likes again. I do know I love shopping. And I like photography. But that's about it... :(

Feel sort of weirdly dumbfounded by this question.

Hello Kitty Forever 21 collection 2011

Saturday, 19 November 2011

Another reason why I should move out of M'sia.
THEY DONT HAVE THIS COLLECTION IN FOREVER 21 M'SIA!!!

Pfffttt!!!!

The Hello Kitty Collection launch was in the Forever 21 store in LA and I got to read it in Dailymail. YAY ME! =.= (not)

I'm a Hello Kitty fan. I am. Not the "OMG LOOK!! I'm so lala" kind of fan, but the "simplicity of the kitty is so adorable" fan. Suck's that (1) They dont have the collection here in Malaysia and (2) I dont have the money to shop even if they were in Malaysia. Sigh....

Looks like I just have to stare that all the Tumblr posts about it and pray to God Hello Kitty Collection comes over to Malaysia someday.

Some day

Friday, 18 November 2011

I want this.
I want to go on a long train ride, a comfortable one.
With a cafe in it. With a table like that.
I want to have a Mac. And an Ipod( not Iphone like the picture) charging...
And maybe a piece of cake.
And a beautiful scenery all the way.
Listening to beautiful music.
Texting my favourite person.
And I wanna be doing office stuff, or maybe just Tumblring.
And maybe on the way to see my beloved.
It's so picture perfect.
I want to be picture perfect.

Reading through Facebook, I realise everyone I know has some sort of family/loved one to go home to. Mother, father, siblings... And before I used to be upset, because I had no one to go home to. Nobody to miss me, or tell me to come home for wanting me to be there. And then you appear. And you tell me you miss me. That you want me there. You ask me when I'm coming home... And you do all these things, but most importantly you give me a chance at having normalcy just like everyone else. And the best part is, I am loved.
I love you. I'm coming home soon baby.

The Walking Dead

Tuesday, 25 October 2011

Just watched The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 1 and 2. Totally awesome. I'm glad the children get to play a big part in this season. I have always been fascinated by post apocalyptic scenarios and if you want me to shut up and watch something quietly(bie, take a hint =P), give me something post apocalyptic to watch. The Mist, Cloverfield, 28 days later, etc.

By the way, I found webisodes of the series, that explain a little about the half eaten zombie girl in Season 1 episode one. She was the main reason I wanted to watch the series. After hearing someone tell me about that girl I was jumping up and down to watch it, and got hooked.

So anyways, lemme post the webisodes here.

Enjoy :)
